What's Happening at ISC Beauty this Year?

Island Skincare News (formerly Indigena Skincare)

As we all know the one constant in life is change, we are always adapting to change whether we are pushing for change or are reacting to change as we saw with the pandemic. Our main purpose as a wellness brand is to make everyone feel good. The feeling of harmony, peace and happiness at ISC starts with me, my mental health and how I look after myself, my family and my business. I am so proud of the company we have built over the past 14 years and I am excited for what the future holds. The teamwork over the past 2 years has been nothing short of phenomenal.

We are currently undertaking a name adjustment. I founded the company in 2009 under the name ‘Indigena’ to reflect our focus on botanicals indigenous to our province.  Our focus on indigenous botanicals hasn’t shifted, but more recently the term “indigena” has become almost synonymous with Indigenous peoples as opposed to aboriginal.

After deep reflection and conversations with members of the Indigenous community, we are changing our name to reflect our support.”

That responsiveness is internal as well as external.  "We need to care for each other, especially after the past few years, so we look for new ways to do that.

Simple things have the most impact, we provide lunch and eat together daily. We focus on flexible hours for our staff who are primarily Moms with school age kids. Our production shifts go 9:30am to 2:30pm. This provides more life balance and happiness for our team members. Most team members and contract workers work remotely. This work from home adds balance and more opportunity for new international students in particular, who don't have drivers licenses to travel to us daily.

Sustainablility reigns supreme here, we are on a mission to buy all packaging and ingredients from Canada, currently we are at the 60% range.

Supply Chain issues - 70% of our packaging in 2023 I am happy to say is being manufactured in Canada. We'll be moving to completely compostable boxes for our retail products in grocery.

We are doing our best to make sustainable choices that reduce our carbon footprint and stay true to our ethos of protecting and preserving our environment.

"I’ve learned so much in the past 14+ years in the manufacturing industry.  We are steadily planning and expanding our reach in wholesale and DTC.

It is truly an honour to produce a brand collection that is made by hand here on the island, by women for all people in our communities and abroad. We love hearing from our customers. As we expand, we will be hiring more staff in Summer 2023.

Creating more work here improves our economy, is building a new manufacturing expertise, is increasing our self confidence as a female work force and reduces cosmetic imports.

Thanks for your ongoing orders, we love boxing up your self care goodies with  care and kindness.

xx Lisa + Team
